Barbour was founded in 1894, when John Barbour opened J Barbour & Sons at 5 Market Place, South Shields. The fifth– generation family-owned lifestyle brand continues to create men’s, women’s and children’s wear items, including its famous waxed jackets, and has worked with celebrities such as Alexa Chung to launch specific ranges. It now has a physical retail presence in more than 55 countries worldwide including the UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and New Zealand.

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has partnered with heritage outerwear brand Barbour to launch a new fashion scholarship, as part of its strategy to expand support for emerging design talent.
