Chanel
Chanel was founded by womenswear design pioneer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in 1910 and is known for creating the famous Chanel suit and No 5 fragrance. In 1913 Chanel opened her first boutique in Deauville, France, where she initially sold jersey sportswear for women. Today it is privately owned by French brothers, Alain and Gérard Wertheimer, through holding company Chanel Ltd, which was established in 2018 and is based in London. Chanel has a worldwide presence with physical stores and a direct-to-consumer website. The US, China and France make up one-third of Chanel’s sales.
