Before sleepwear founder Peter Alexander was dubbed the “Pyjama King” by Australian media, he worked from his mum\u2019s dining room table in Melbourne, running his fledgling business as a <\/span>one-man<\/span> band.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The brand\u00a0was created as an answer what his female friends were searching for: creative\u00a0and\u00a0fun sleepwear styles for women.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Still based in Melbourne, where his brand was established in 1987, Alexander\u2019s eponymous sleepwear brand has since grown into a 1,000-person team, with 140 stores across the UK, Australia and New Zealand.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Designed in his home city, the brand works with long term manufacturers in China and India. Alexander launched ecommerce in the UK market in 2024, supported by standalone stores located in Westfield White City and Stratford City, London and Bluewater, Kent. The business does not currently have stockists in the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

Retail prices start from \u00a329 for a T-shirt,<\/span> two-piece pyjama sets range from <\/span>\u00a365 for shorts to \u00a3209 for a premium mulberry silk set.<\/div>\n

Before starting his business, Alexander worked as a visual merchandiser for an Australian womenswear brand Sportsgirl, an experience which now informs his own approach to store design and customer experience.<\/span><\/div>\n

Having cemented his brand as a household name across Australia and New Zealand, Alexander now looks forward to expanding its reach in the UK. <\/span><\/p>\n

What is t<\/span><\/b>he first thing you do in the morning?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The first thing I do in the morning is have a cuddle with my dogs – who sleep on my bed and demand some morning kisses.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your coffee or tea order?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Skinny latte with one sugar – I have a sweet tooth!<\/span><\/p>\n

How would you describe your style?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

M<\/span>y style is casual. Comfort is my key word – surprising that I design pyjamas right?<\/p>\n

What is the most treasured item in your wardrobe?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

My\u00a0Orlebar\u00a0Brown T-Shirts – they are the perfect tee for me.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What tool or app makes your work easier?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Spell Check is my lifesaver! I am dyslexic\u00a0and\u00a0a terrible speller, so I really put it to\u00a0good use.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019re making me reveal a guilty pleasure here, but reality TV really helps me switch off. Who doesn\u2019t love a bit of Real Housewives<\/em>?!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

My dad gave me a piece of advice when I started my business,\u00a0and\u00a0I still carry it with me to this day; \u201cStand\u00a0strong in your\u00a0beliefs, but\u00a0always keep your ears open for good advice\u201d.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

It might sound so clich\u00e9, but really, I would tell myself \u201cDon\u2019t sweat the small stuff\u201d. As you move through business and life, you really understand that you have to ride the ups and downs, and building this brand really taught me to laugh through the tougher times.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

What is next for Peter Alexander in 2026?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

I have one goal for 2026 \u2013 to share a bed with everyone in the UK!<\/span><\/p>\n
