Joseph, which operates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drapersonline.com\/news\/joseph-unveils-a-sixth-store-in-london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">six standalone stores and three concessions in London<\/a> as well as one standalone store and three concessions in Paris, is already seeing a decline in international footfall, particularly from Middle Eastern customers, alongside weakening consumer confidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1294\" data-end=\"1586\">To manage the impact, the business has established a dedicated \u201cIran crisis team\u201d, bringing together supply chain and sales functions to assess risks and implement mitigation strategies. These include re-forecasting, scenario planning and closer engagement with suppliers around cost inflation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1588\" data-end=\"1839\">Brown said the retailer is seeking to absorb as much of the short-term cost pressure as possible to remain competitive, with any price increases likely to be gradual and limited.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1588\" data-end=\"1839\">\u201cIt\u2019s about taking as much of the impact internally as we can,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1841\" data-end=\"2050\">More broadly, Brown told delegates that constant disruption has reshaped how retailers operate, pushing businesses to become \u201cmore agile, more versatile and more creative\u201d in their approach to supply chain management.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2052\" data-end=\"2386\">Joseph\u2019s strategy prioritises protecting sales, even at the expense of margin in the short term.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2052\" data-end=\"2386\">While freight costs have risen sharply, Brown noted they currently represent around a 5% increase in overall costs \u2014 far less than the impact of missing sales entirely: \u201cIf you don\u2019t get the product in, you lose 100% of the sale,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2052\" data-end=\"2386\">Joseph: rebalancing rather than overhauling supply chain<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2388\" data-end=\"2554\">On sourcing, the brand is rebalancing rather than overhauling its supply chain, including exploring nearshoring options while maintaining a diversified supplier base.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2556\" data-end=\"2888\">Brown also stressed the importance of breaking down internal silos, arguing that poor communication and unclear objectives often undermine decision making during periods of volatility.
