Morrisons <\/a>told Drapers that changes across its general merchandise (GM) and homeware teams have impacted a \u201csmall number\u201d of colleagues.<\/p>\n

No clothing team employees have been affected by the redundancies, according to the business, and a final number of roles axed is yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n

The move comes as Morrisons proposes to restructure its GM operations, including plans to establish a new standalone office in Warrington, Cheshire, relocating from its long-time head office at Hilmore House in Bradford, where it had been based since 1971.<\/p>\n

A Morrisons spokesperson told Drapers the business is \u201cproposing to establish a new standalone office in Warrington to be the new home for [Morrisons’] GM business\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe adopted a similar strategy for our Nutmeg clothing business when we established a separate office in Coalville, Leicestershire, [in 2012] at the geographical heart of the UK clothing industry. We are proposing that the existing GM trading function at Hilmore House will close in due course.\u201d<\/p>\n

The business employs more than 100,000 staff across close to 500 supermarkets, manufacturing and logistics sites and around 1,600 Morrisons Daily convenience stores.<\/p>\n

In March 2025, Morrisons placed 365 roles at risk<\/a> of redundancy as it shuttered 52 caf\u00e9s, all 18 in-store canteens, also known as \u2018market kitchens\u2019, as well as 17 convenience stores, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies.<\/p>\n

Last week, Drapers also exclusively revealed that a number of roles were at risk of redundancy at Sainsbury’s<\/a> amid a review process of its Tu Clothing division.<\/p>\n

The clothing team review is a continuation of a broader organisational update announced in February, which included a reduction of 300 head office roles as the group restructured its technology team and Argos delivery network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
