Liberty
Liberty was founded in 1875 by Arthur Lasenby Liberty, and opened its first store on Regent Street, London, selling imported fabrics and ornaments. The iconic Tudor-style building on Great Marlborough Street was completed in 1924. In the 1950s, Liberty expanded with regional stores, but by 1996, it refocused on its London flagship. BlueGem Capital acquired Liberty for £32m in 2010. In 2019, BlueGem sold a 40% stake to Glendower Capital in a deal valuing Liberty at £300m. As of 2025 – its 150th anniversary year – Liberty only operates its sole flagship store in London.
