Lululemon Athletica, founded in 1998 by Chip Wilson in Vancouver, opened its first standalone store in 2000. The company went public in 2007 and, as of January 2024, operated 711 stores globally. In 2014, it entered the UK market with a flagship in Covent Garden. In 2022, it expanded into footwear, debuting women’s running shoes. The company reported $8bn (£5.9bn) in revenue for 2022 and aims for $12.5bn (£9.3bn) by 2026. In 2023, it opened its 100th store in China and entered Spain, with plans for Thailand. Founder Chip Wilson retains an 8.4% stake.
